Safety First
At Floral and Fern, your enjoyment and safety are our top priorities. To help you make the most of your candles while ensuring a secure environment, we’ve put together some essential tips.
Preparing to Light Your Candle
Before lighting your candle, make sure to trim the wick to approximately 5 mm (¼ inch). This crucial step promotes an even and consistent burn while minimizing the likelihood of flickering flames, resulting in a steady, controlled flame. Using a quality pair of wick trimmers will make this task simple and effective.
Additionally, place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, ensuring it is positioned away from any flammable items, such as curtains, paper, or furniture. This precaution helps reduce risks and keeps your space safe.
While Your Candle is Lit
For optimal safety, avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This practice maintains a consistent burn and prevents overheating.
Always supervise your candle while it’s lit; never leave it unattended or sleep with it burning nearby.
When the wax level approaches approximately 10 mm (¼ inch) from the bottom, extinguish the flame to prevent the candle vessel from overheating and ensure safe usage.
If the flame flickers or appears too high, extinguish it immediately. Trim the wick and let the candle cool down before relighting to ensure a safe burn.
After Enjoying Your Candle
When extinguishing your candle, use a candle snuffer rather than pouring water on it, which keeps the candle intact and prevents splattering.
Before leaving the room, ensure that the candle is completely out, and no glowing embers remain. Allow the candle to cool completely before touching or relocating it to avoid burns or accidents.
Store your candles in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight to maintain their quality and longevity.
